About The Position

The purpose of an Emergency Medical Technician-Cadet at Gold Cross Ambulance is to learn essential functions of an EMT. This role involves classroom training and hands-on experience to provide efficient and immediate care to patients, transport them to medical facilities, and ensure the ambulance is always ready for the next call.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Gold Cross Ambulance's physical proficiency standards.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with no more than two (2) moving violations, or no more than one (1) moving violation and one (1) chargeable accident in a three (3) year period.
  • Demonstrates strong moral character: Honesty, Peer Respect and Trust, Direct conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in classroom training and education as laid out in the program to complete the essential functions of an EMT.
  • Respond to ambulance calls (emergency & non-emergency) to provide efficient and immediate care to all patients.
  • Transport patients requiring continued care to an appropriate medical facility.
  • Transport patients from one medical facility to another per direct order.
  • Drive ambulance to the given location, using the most expeditious route when dispatched.
  • Observe traffic ordinances and regulations pertaining to emergency vehicle operation.
  • Determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establish priority for required emergency medical care, rendering care to the level of the employee's training.
  • Advise dispatch if and when additional help or special rescue services, and/or utility services are needed.
  • Assist in lifting the stretcher and placing it in the ambulance, ensuring the patient and stretcher are secured, while continuing patient care as necessary.
  • Constantly monitor patient condition while en route to the destination.
  • Maintain communication with medical control at the receiving facility, following physician's orders.
  • Provide patient care within the confines of the patient care protocol and EMT scope of practice.
  • Properly assist in transferring patients out of the ambulance and into the receiving facility.
  • Verbally and in writing report observations made while caring for the patient at the scene and in transit to the medical staff receiving the patient.
  • After each ambulance run, replace all supplies used and make a careful check of all equipment so that the ambulance is ready for the next run.
  • After each ambulance run, complete the patient care report.
  • Ensure the assigned ambulance is clean (interior & exterior), neat, and in an orderly condition.
  • Maintain familiarity with specialized equipment utilized by Gold Cross Ambulance Service, Inc.
  • Ensure ambulance attendants and drivers are equally trained regarding each other's duties and responsibilities to function independently or interchangeably in caring for multiple casualties.
