About The Position

The purpose of an Emergency Medical Technician-Cadet at Gold Cross Ambulance is to learn essential functions of an EMT. This role involves classroom training and hands-on experience to provide efficient and immediate care to patients in emergency and non-emergency situations, transport patients to appropriate medical facilities, and maintain the ambulance and its equipment.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Gold Cross Ambulance's physical proficiency standards.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with no more than two (2) moving violations, or no more than one (1) moving violation & one (1) chargeable accident in a three (3) year period.
  • Demonstrates strong moral character: Honesty, Peer Respect and Trust.
  • Direct conflict resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Complete classroom training and education to learn essential EMT functions.
  • Respond to ambulance calls (emergency & non-emergency) to provide efficient and immediate care to all patients.
  • Transport patients requiring continued care to an appropriate medical facility.
  • Transport patients from one medical facility to another per direct order.
  • Drive ambulance to the given location, using the most expeditious route while observing traffic ordinances and regulations.
  • Determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and establish priority for emergency medical care, rendering care to the level of training.
  • Advise dispatch if additional help or special rescue/utility services are needed.
  • Assist in lifting the stretcher, placing it in the ambulance, and securing the patient and stretcher, while continuing patient care.
  • Constantly monitor patient condition while en route to the destination.
  • Maintain communication with medical control at the receiving facility and follow physician's orders.
  • Provide patient care within the confines of the patient care protocol and EMT scope of practice.
  • Properly assist in transferring patients out of the ambulance and into the receiving facility.
  • Report verbally and in writing observations made while caring for the patient at the scene and in transit to the medical staff receiving the patient.
  • Replace all used supplies and check all equipment after each ambulance run to ensure the ambulance is ready for the next run.
  • Complete patient care reports after each ambulance run.
  • Ensure the assigned ambulance is clean (interior & exterior), neat, and in orderly condition.
  • Maintain familiarity with specialized equipment utilized by Gold Cross Ambulance Service, Inc.
  • Ensure ambulance attendants and drivers are equally trained regarding each other's duties and responsibilities to function independently or interchangeably.
