The EMS Instructor, under the direct supervision of the EMS Unit Supervisor/EMS Coordinator, provides education and training to all disciplines of emergency care providers. This role takes a leadership position in course development through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of classroom, laboratory, clinical, and online instruction. The instructor demonstrates attributes of a professional educator, including being self-motivated, an effective communicator, organized, knowledgeable, prepared, confident, respectful, and a student advocate. They are responsible for developing EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, and/or AHA courses using guidelines from state and national agencies. The instructor applies the principles of Adult Learning, sets clear goals, monitors student progress, provides feedback, and mentors novice instructors. They must instruct in at least one American Heart Association Class (BLS, ACLS, PALS) and maintain accurate class records. Teaching can occur at various times and locations, including the main campus, mobile sim lab, or on-site at students' employment. Exceptional customer service and effective interaction with students, customers, and Mercy Partners are expected.
