About The Position

In this unique opportunity you will have a combination of administrative and clinical time which will allow you to pursue various tasks and projects while also keeping your own skills sharp. The EMS coordinator is a critical and respected forward-facing position that has a variety of responsibilities including quality assurance, providing education, credentialing, regulatory assistance, and acting as the liaison between EMS organizations underneath Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s medical oversight and the hospital. While acting in a clinical role, you will be able to use your skills to their fullest extent with our extensive clinical capabilities including but not limited to RSI, blood, and point of care ultrasound The Coordinator will represent Charlotte Hungerford Hospital at EMS activities, professional meetings, and community activities. They will serve as the liaison between the Emergency Department staff and pre-hospital care providers. This individual will coordinate educational programs, EMS activities, and quality improvement of pre-hospital care. The Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring programs and issues related to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’ participation as an ambulance receiving/transferring facility. Additionally they will oversee the maintenance of the State Trauma Registry.

Requirements

  • Paramedic (EMT-P) with current licensure in the State of Connecticut.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
  • Working knowledge of philosophies, policies, procedures, legalities, and technicalities of both the emergency Medical Service system and a hospital health center.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • EMS Instructor certification or EMS Instructor certification received within one year of hire.
  • Teaching and/or supervisory experience in Emergency Medical Services or Critical Care recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain quality improvement and quality assurance programs, including chart review
  • Providing education to EMS providers and assist teaching EMS topics for personnel within the emergency department
  • Maintain documentation of certification levels and key metrics of agencies under hospital medical control
  • Ensure all EMS providers under the hospital's medical control meet and maintain required training and certifications/licenses
  • Provide appropriate retraining and implement corrective action plans as needed under guidance of EMS medical director
  • Serve on EMS committees at hospital, local, regional, and state level
  • Represent hospital at EMS activities
  • Act as a resource person on EMS topics and maintain current knowledge of EMS issues
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Oversee the maintenance of the State Trauma Registry
