About The Position

The UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine is looking to hire an EMS Communications Specialist to support UPMC PARC. UPMC PARC operates 24/7 and requires continuous staffing. Candidates must be flexible and available for any shift. Daylight and evening shifts are typically 8 or 10 hours, depending on departmental needs, while overnight shifts are 10 hours. Additionally, shifts include rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Must possess strong computer skills.
  • Current or prior EMS or healthcare experience required.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Must possess good communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Call center experience preferred.
  • Current EMT or paramedic certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process incoming patient transport requests and all incoming phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Process all condition codes, monitor fire alarms, address security requests, and provide phone operator service during off hours.
  • Efficiently schedule non-medically necessary transportation for eligible clients/consumers as designated by the UPMC Health Plan.
  • Plan and coordinate transportation via the appropriate mode in accordance with the policies and procedures of the UPMC Health Plan.
  • Receive emergency calls and process appropriately.
  • Provide exceptional customer service according to UPMC policies and procedures.
  • Receive and document medical command reports and notify the emergency department.
  • Monitor hospital alarm systems.
  • Coordinate medical command requests from paramedic to physician and document the request.
  • Process incoming calls.
  • Document all information in the Zoll RightCad system.
  • Efficiently process medically necessary patient transportation requests on a timely basis.
  • Receive hospital condition codes and send out notification page per policy and procedure.
  • Perform hospital operator duties on the overnight shift.
