About The Position

This is a full-time direct service position responsible for a caseload of adult correctional clients participating in the Chippewa Valley Correctional Treatment Facility. The role involves coordinating all employment support services directly with the Deputy Warden or their designee. Client involvement can be on an individual or group basis. The specialist will coach inmates on skills needed for employment, ensure they have necessary identification documents for private sector work, and assist with transportation for identification, interviews, clothing, or tools. A comprehensive financial plan for repayment of obligations will be developed. The role includes tracking inmate work hours, wages, deductions, managing savings accounts, and providing statistical documentation. Collaboration with inmates and employers to match skills, assess performance, and address adjustment issues is key. The specialist will also facilitate Employment and Pre-Release modules, assist with Cognitive Intervention, Anger Management, and Domestic Violence groups, maintain client files, and report program data. Adherence to professional boundaries, trauma-informed interactions, and agency policies on confidentiality and fraternization is required.

Requirements

  • Complete and submit a Vehicle Use Agreement (DOA-6000) for all drivers’ license checks.
  • Have held a valid driver’s license for a minimum of two (2) years.
  • Successfully complete the DOC van driver training and any other requirements specified by the DOC risk management staff.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing services to inmates.
  • Six (6) months experience delivering services to persons of all genders from various racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds as well as individuals with disabilities.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in teaching, coaching and or group facilitation.
  • A minimum of 15 credits of post-secondary education.
  • Basic Computer skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to complete technical tasks independently, as assigned.
  • Adhere to all agency program policies related to client confidentiality and fraternization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a strengths-based model of case management, coaching, or counseling is beneficial.
  • Basic understanding of Wisconsin’s criminal justice system is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with local resources and supportive mechanisms to assist confined individuals in successfully transitioning to the community is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all employment support services for adult correctional clients.
  • Coach inmates on skill sets necessary to obtain and maintain gainful employment.
  • Ensure inmates have proper identification documents or that necessary documents are requested within two working days of reception.
  • Provide transportation for inmates to obtain identification, attend employment interviews, acquire clothing/tools, or travel to/from work sites.
  • Assist inmates in obtaining clothing or tools necessary for job or crew assignments.
  • Develop a comprehensive financial plan for inmates' outstanding financial obligations.
  • Track inmate hours worked, wages earned, taxes paid, and wage statement deductions.
  • Establish and monitor a release savings account and plans for release spending.
  • Provide monthly statistical documentation for the DOC.
  • Work with inmates and prospective employers/agencies to match work skills with work release employment sites.
  • Orient inmates to work site performance expectations.
  • Communicate with inmates and employers to assess performance and adjustment issues.
  • Work with inmates and employers to verify hours of work expectations.
  • Facilitate Employment Module and Pre-Release modules (Transportation, Employment, Education, Transitional Prep).
  • Assist with or facilitate the Cognitive Intervention Program, Anger Management, and Domestic Violence groups.
  • Maintain and update client files.
  • Collect and report program data to ACS and DOC personnel.
  • Consult with supervisor and inform them of work hours established with the superintendent.
  • Meet with and provide written and telephone conversations with supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to Professional Boundaries while interacting with clients.
  • Maintain & promote trauma-informed interactions with clients.
