Reporting to a Team Lead within the Complaint Resolution Unit or Special Investigations and Inspections Unit, Employment Standards Officers (ESOs) are tasked with resolving disputes where alleged contraventions of the Employment Standards Code (Code) have occurred. This is achieved by providing education to parties, facilitating mediation and negotiation discussions, and conducting investigations and advanced enforcement activities including site inspections, audits and prosecutions. ESOs exercise the authorities delegated under the Code in a fair and unbiased manner and make determinations. These determinations can become enforceable as a judgment in the Alberta Court of King’s Bench.

Requirements

  • University degree in a related field.
  • At least two years of related experience with interpreting legislation and/or policy and procedures.
  • A Class 5 Driver’s License is also required.
  • Cover letter required.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly, capture key information, and produce well reasoned written work.
  • Proven experience in mediation, showing composure, judgement, and effectiveness in fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, verify and analyze facts and apply legislation.
