About The Position

S:US is seeking an Employment Specialist for their adult families shelter in Manhattan. The Employment Specialist provides vocational services and consultation as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team. The Employment Specialist will conduct assessment interviews to gather information related to clients’ skills, education and interests. He/she will design and facilitate vocational/employment groups, maintain an active employment vocational/educational data bank, and serve as Program Representative at Workforce and Employment Initiatives and Meetings. The specialist will identify barriers to employment (e.g., ESL, Substance Abuse, Mental Health) and, in collaboration with the Case Manager, make appropriate referrals.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to assist adults of diverse ethnicities, backgrounds, ages, and sexual preferences.

Responsibilities

  • Familiar with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations as they apply to the community residence program and agency policies
  • Provides vocational services and consultation as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Visits clients in their home and other settings required.
  • Familiar with OMH regulations
  • Responsible for integrating vocational goals and services
  • Provides aid and assistance through all phases of the vocational service provision
  • Performing routine clinical services as a member of the Team
  • Responsible for charting client services
  • Responsible for the vocational portion or all of creating the service plan
  • Responsible for integrating vocational goals and services with the tasks of all the team members
  • Responsible for ensuring revisions to the plan as the participant’s needs change
  • Advocating for the rights and preferences of the participant whenever possible
  • Responsible for creating a monthly spreadsheet with names of tenants and their employment status
  • Follow-up quarterly with all employed tenants
  • Assist with making monthly contact with tenant as needed
  • Participate in bi-weekly monthly meeting
  • Participate in monthly supervision to address any work-related tasks or concerns
  • Other duties as assigned
