About The Position

Founded in 1911, VOA-NCNN is a major provider of social services, operating over 40 programs in housing, employment, substance abuse, and recovery services for diverse populations. This full-time Employment Specialist position is for the Adolfo Housing Program at the Mather Community Campus. VOA-NCNN is a Certified Great Place to Work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field is preferred.
  • Two years of successful experience in the delivery of human services or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide services to clients without ethnic or social prejudices.
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to foster youth, homelessness, substance abuse, minorities, and people with disabilities.
  • Ability to utilize a range of interventions to work with clients with varying needs and levels of functioning.
  • Willingness to function as a team member with the ability to make skillful independent decisions.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines.
  • Must pass all required background clearances.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment.
  • Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.

  • Specific knowledge and experience with foster youth culture, housing first approaches, addiction and recovery, and dysfunctional family dynamics are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the program efficiently and compassionately, ensuring quality service to residents through coordination of program functions and assistance to staff.
  • Collaborate with partner service providers and staff to ensure quality service to residents and support overall organizational operations.
  • Work with participants on job search skills and activities to ensure continued job start readiness.
  • Manage job matching and placement activities with employers and participants.
  • Assess job readiness and facilitate job clubs/alumni groups.
  • Provide retention services to employees at critical milestones of employment.
  • Assist in department orientation and training for new employees.
  • Serve as part of the development team by providing information and support for quality operations.
  • Maintain knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Continually learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Attend staff meetings and assigned training, and complete required certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid).
  • Attend training and collaborative meetings for development of employment resources.
