About The Position

Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA-NCNN) is a nonprofit organization with nearly 500 employees dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives. As one of the largest providers of social services in the region, VOA-NCNN operates over 40 programs focused on housing, employment, substance abuse, and recovery services for diverse populations. The organization's mission is to inspire self-sufficiency, dignity, and hope by providing critical health and human services. This full-time Employment Specialist position is for the Adolfo Housing Program at the Mather Community Campus, a Certified Great Place to Work.

Requirements

Two years of successful experience in the delivery of human services or any combination of education, training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and ability.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
Ability to provide services to clients without ethnic or social prejudices.
General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to foster youth population, homelessness, substance abuse, minorities, and people with disabilities.
Ability to utilize a range of interventions to work with clients with varying needs and levels of functioning.
Willingness to function as a team member.
Ability to make skillful independent decisions.
Valid California driver's license.
Ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines.
Must pass all required background clearances.
CPR/First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment.
Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field.
Specific knowledge and experience with foster youth culture, housing first approaches, addiction and recovery, and dysfunctional family dynamics.

Responsibilities

Operate the program efficiently and compassionately, ensuring quality service to residents through coordination of program functions and assistance to staff.
Collaborate with partner service providers and staff to ensure quality service to residents and support organizational operations.
Work with participants on job search skills and activities.
Manage job matching and placement activities with employers and participants.
Assess job readiness.
Facilitate job clubs/alumni groups.
Provide retention services to employees.
Assist in department orientation and training for new employees.
Serve as part of the development team by providing information and support for quality operations.
Maintain knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to ensure a safe work environment.
Continually learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills.
Attend staff meetings and assigned training.
Complete required certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid).
Attend training and collaborative meetings for development of employment resources.
