About The Position

Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA-NCNN) is a nonprofit organization with nearly 500 employees dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives. As one of the largest providers of social services in the region, VOA-NCNN operates over 40 programs including housing, employment services, substance abuse, and recovery services for diverse populations. The organization's mission is to inspire self-sufficiency, dignity, and hope through critical health and human services. VOA-NCNN is a Certified Great Place to Work and is recruiting for a full-time Program Supervisor for the Adolfo Housing Program at the Mather Community Campus. This campus includes several programs such as the Laverne Adolfo Transitional Housing Program for Youth (THP-Plus), Mather Transitional Housing Program for Families, DHS/OTL Family Program, Mather Emergency Shelter for Single Adults, and the Sacramento County Employment Program. Full-time employees working 30 or more hours a week are eligible for a benefits package including paid holidays, vacation, sick pay, health, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, comprehend, and follow through on oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide services to residents without ethnic or social prejudices.
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to homelessness, substance abuse, young adults, and minorities.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours.
  • Willingness to function as a team member.
  • Intermediate computer skills required, including Outlook and all Microsoft programs.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines.
  • Must pass all required background clearances in accordance with agency, County, State, and federal standards.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is required within 90 days of employment.
  • Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work, or a relevant field, is preferred.
  • Specific knowledge with Twelve Step philosophy, addiction and recovery, and dysfunctional family dynamics is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the collection of program fees.
  • Schedule shift hours for all Mentor staff and perform bi-weekly payroll duties.
  • Help ensure that residents’ apartments are safe and in good order by performing weekly housing inspections for health and safety.
  • Consistently update Policies and Procedures Manual and schedule all safety inspections.
  • Order and track all bus passes provided to residents.
  • Make weekly food donation collection and distribution to residents while maintaining accurate weekly and monthly food donation logs and reports.
  • Ensure effective communication among Adolfo staff through completion of resident and staff logs, fliers and incident reports as well as through professional, respectful and team building written and verbal communication.
  • Provide emergency assistance to residents, such as AOD intervention, and staff as necessary.
  • Respond to all client questions and concerns.
  • Identify and delegate chores to clients for Community Service hours.
  • Provide resident support and encouragement to the Youth Advocates including, but not limited to: youth coaching, mentoring and direct, compassionate communication.
  • Provide assistance with resident development including assessing any social issues that present barriers to a resident’s success in cooperative living and successful achievement of self-sufficiency.
  • Document and report all resident concerns and/or infractions that can impact the program security.
  • Maintain and complete all shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports.
  • Monitor inventory of program equipment and supplies and take appropriate action to replace or restock as needed.
  • Secure Program Manager approval for exceptions to standard policy for residents or self.
  • Notify management of potential workflow problems and resource needs necessary to attain performance standards.
  • Adhere to staffing schedules in order to provide adequate/safe staffing coverage and to accomplish program objectives.
  • Communicate with service providers and external county/state/city program representatives as required.
  • Direct available resources as required.
  • Assist in department orientation and training for new employees as requested to ensure quality work outcomes.
  • Serve as part of the development team by providing information and support for the development of quality operations.
  • Maintain an above average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to ensure safe work environment for clients and all personnel.
  • Continually learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Attend staff meetings/assigned training seminars and complete required certifications, i.e. CPR, First Aid, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Director.
