About The Position

Catholic Charities is seeking an Employment Specialist to join their family-friendly organization serving the Houston-Galveston area. This role is crucial for the Refugee Resettlement program, which aims to help government-approved refugees become self-sufficient through various support services. The Employment Specialist will focus on developing, supporting, and implementing Employment Services, including creating job opportunities, building vocational and educational partnerships, conducting outreach, and providing coaching to help clients navigate the job search process and secure employment. This position is key to delivering services that promote economic self-sufficiency, career resiliency, training, and employment stability for individuals and families.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in social work, public administration, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in employment development.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of employment coaching and job development best practices.
  • Demonstrated success in having clients secure and maintain employment.
  • Demonstrated contacts/relationships with prospective employers and community partners.
  • Self-starter and ability to follow-through on commitments.
  • Organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to help refine and implement an evolving program.
  • Ability to work individually and as a member of a team.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement employment initiatives, including identifying, developing, and maintaining community partnerships to increase client earning potential.
  • Develop effective working relationships with employers, monitor program satisfaction, and assess business staffing needs.
  • Track employment placement and retention outcomes for program participants.
  • Determine client eligibility, assess strengths and interests, link clients with potential employers, and coordinate with case managers.
  • Work with clients to create and implement individualized action plans for employment and self-sufficiency.
  • Coach clients through their action plans, encouraging resilience through rejections.
  • Alert clients to job opportunities and recruitment events, and provide access to job fairs.
  • Teach pre-employment classes and provide individual coaching to clients facing employment challenges.
  • Assist clients in editing existing resumes and developing new ones.
  • Coach clients on interview skills and conduct mock interviews.
  • Assist clients in scheduling job interviews and track their employment status for a designated period (e.g., 90 days).
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to resolve workplace issues.
  • Arrange transportation and other necessary assistance for clients to secure jobs.
  • Refer clients to other services such as ESL, vocational training, on-the-job training (OJT), and literacy/education services.
  • Assist clients in enrolling in services offered by community partners and follow up to promote success.
  • Organize, plan, and execute workforce development events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
