About The Position

The Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission seeks to secure the equitable and timely administration of the provisions of the Maryland Workers' Compensation law on behalf of its customer, the injured workers and their employers, by providing an efficient forum for the resolution of individual claims. The Workers' Compensation Commission envisions a state wherein injured workers and employers are empowered to create an equitable partnership to facilitate prompt and fair resolution of workers' compensation matters. This position is assisting the Division in ensuring employers’ compliance with MD workers' compensation laws. MD law requires all employers of at least one covered employee to maintain workers’ compensation insurance for that employee. This position will work with the Director to further develop the proof of coverage program with the MD Department of Labor. A proof of coverage program will be maintained by this position. Additionally, review Exclusion forms for acceptance/rejection by the Commission.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Two years of administrative staff or professional work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university.
  • One or more years of experience working with databases and performing data matches to research/locate and monitor businesses and individuals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, including experience importing data into Excel, formatting data in Excel, tracking data in Excel and using mail merge in Word using Excel data.
  • Successful completion of at least one college level three (3) credit Technical Writing course from an accredited four-year college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and run a data match with WCC data and MDL data to determine employers maintaining Unemployment Insurance accounts and not carrying workers’ compensation insurance.
  • Prepare letters to employers identified in the data run and monitor responses.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly correspondence to employers who have cancelled their insurance policies.
  • Work with data provided by the National Council on Compensation Insurance (“NCCI”) to determine the MD employers to be contacted regarding their cancellation of insurance.
  • Answer questions and address concerns raised by the employers who are contacted.
  • Work in conjunction with the Employer Compliance Lead regarding employer compliance enforcement, including correspondence with uninsured employers, setting Show/Cause hearings and follow up when the Commission issues an order to obtain insurance.
  • Review Exclusion Forms for acceptance/rejection and answer questions/assist the public with completion and submission of the forms.
