About The Position

Provides consultation, guidance, and coaching to leaders to address employee relations performance concerns. Provides guidance and assists with the development and delivery of appropriate feedback of corrective/disciplinary actions. Provides assistance to other team advisors to address labor questions/issues, union organizing, interpretation of complex contract terms, policies or rules, discipline/employment related issues. Consults, in conjunction with other team advisors, the market human resource teams with direct interaction with local unions and local business units. Serves as a liaison between leadership and the local unions regarding all aspects of our business, including technological advances, new business initiatives, changes in the law, efforts to make our business stronger and more viable as well as changes and/or modifications to terms and conditions of employment for our unionized associates. Demonstrates strong analytical skills with an ability to analyze information to identify the root causes of problems and proposing realistic and practical solutions to address them based on knowledge and understanding of the organization and its operating environment. Makes recommendations to leaders to improve work relationships, enhance employee engagement and improve productivity and retention. Conducts thorough, fair, and timely investigations of reported policy violations or grievances. Performs discreet, confidential, and effective interviews with the ability to develop trust with team members to allow for honest and transparent dialogue. Maintains detailed, accurate investigation files. Provides guidance and support on maintaining and ensuring compliance of all human resources policies, procedures and handbooks to ensure they meet local, state and federal regulations. Guides the process for updates to human resources policies, procedures and handbooks and for developing and implementing plans to communicate changes throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • Two years' of employee & labor relations experience: Required
  • Labor Relations certification course completion: Required or completed within one year of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, business, or related field: Preferred
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Three years' of employee & labor relations experience: Preferred
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Sr. Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP): Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the overall oversight of the system wide employee & labor relations matters.
  • Proposes resolutions to employee & labor relations issues.
  • Assists other team advisors in conducting escalated investigations regarding potential violations of applicable federal or state employment laws and/or Adventist Health policies.
  • Assists in the preparation of fact-finding summary reports on completed investigations.
  • Advises and influences all levels of management regarding employee & labor relations decisions.
  • Assists in the development of projects in a variety of employee & labor relations-related areas.
  • Provides guidance to market human resource teams for the successful outcome of projects.
  • Partners with and serves as a resource to employees and leaders to promote and maintain positive employee relations.
  • Maintains positive relationships with managers to proactively identify, manage and resolve employee relations concerns.
  • Assists in the oversight of the system labor relations program.
  • Provides assistance in the resolution of labor complaints, disputes, and grievances.
  • Participates in labor contract training, and provides technical advice and interpretation to management and employees.
  • Works closely with payroll and other administrative departments to ensure proper interpretation and enforcement of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Provides interpretation of human resources policy and procedures to market human resource teams, employees and leaders.
  • Makes recommendations for changes to policies and procedures and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Provides guidance and support on maintaining and ensuring compliance of all human resources policies, procedures and handbooks to ensure they meet local, state and federal regulations.
  • Guides the process for updates to human resources policies, procedures and handbooks and for developing and implementing plans to communicate changes throughout the organization.
  • Manages and assists in the administration of system wide compliance programs such as affirmative action planning (AAP’s), veteran’s & disability reporting, driver safety, anti-harassment training as well as other federal and state required compliance.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
