About The Position

The Employee Benefits Intern will gain hands-on experience and exposure to real-world projects at a growing insurance brokerage. The intern will work closely with experienced team members, contribute to analytics initiatives for the benefits department, and learn about business operations and the employee benefits industry. The internship includes an opportunity to travel to the corporate office in Richmond, Virginia, to connect with other interns, network with company leaders, and participate in a volunteer event. The internship may lead to full-time employment opportunities upon graduation.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Curious, motivated, and eager to learn about the insurance industry and grow professionally.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred majors include Risk Management & Insurance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Business Management, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Learn and use the agency management system to support employee benefits analysis, reporting, and client deliverables.
• Develop a foundational understanding of employee benefits, including health and welfare plans, compliance requirements, and carrier operations.
• Support benefits analysts, service teams, and sales teams by shadowing client meetings and internal strategy discussions.
• Assist with data analysis, entry, and validation related to employee benefits plans, renewals, and client reporting.
• Compile and maintain records, reports, and benefit plan documentation to support client service and compliance efforts.
• Research and analyze employee benefits data files for group clients, identifying trends, discrepancies, and opportunities.
• Gain exposure to clients and their industries, with an emphasis on benefits strategy and cost management.
• Learn about benefits carriers and vendors, including plan structures, funding arrangements, and reporting requirements.
• Build an understanding of key employee benefits coverages and how they are applied to meet client needs and objectives.
