About The Position

This 6-week paid internship is designed to introduce recent college graduates and December graduates to the world of employee benefits from the ground up. The program offers structured mentorship, real exposure to client work, and full sponsorship toward obtaining a Life & Health insurance license. Interns who demonstrate aptitude and enthusiasm may have the opportunity to convert to a full-time role post-internship. The program focuses on learning how companies design and manage the benefit programs their employees depend on, with rotations through major areas of benefits, including health and wellness, retirement planning, and client relationship management in a professional brokerage setting.

Requirements

  • Recent college graduate or December graduate with a degree in Business, Finance, HR, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • No prior insurance or employee benefits experience required; a genuine desire to enter the industry is what matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Curiosity, eagerness to learn, and a self-starter mentality.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines in a professional environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Human Resources, Risk Management, or a related field required.
  • Coursework or internship experience in financial services, HR, or a client-facing environment is a plus but not required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate through every major area of benefits, from health and wellness to retirement planning.
  • Gain real exposure to how client relationships work in a professional brokerage setting.
  • Learn the basics of insurance and why employee benefits matter to businesses and their employees.
  • Understand the full benefits landscape: health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement.
  • Dive into health insurance products: HMOs, PPOs, traditional plans, and managed care.
  • Explore how wellness programs are designed and why they matter to employers.
  • Review real-world case studies of effective employer health strategies.
  • Learn how life and disability coverage protects employees and their families.
  • Get introduced to the tools and platforms used by the team.
  • Practice handling client questions and walking through a claims scenario through role-play.
  • Understand 401(k) plans, pensions, and other savings vehicles.
  • Learn the compliance basics that govern retirement programs.
  • Run through simulated enrollment and administration exercises.
  • Learn how employer accounts are managed and long-term client relationships are built.
  • Understand the consultative approach to presenting and selling benefits solutions.
  • Practice client meetings, problem-solving, and account service in live role-plays.
  • Shadow a Senior Client Executive to observe real client work.
  • Build and present a proposed benefits program for a hypothetical employer.
  • Receive direct feedback from a mentor and discuss career paths in employee benefits.
  • Participate in weekly one-on-one check-ins with an assigned mentor.
  • Attend sessions with guest speakers from across the benefits and HR industry.
  • Engage in networking opportunities across Venbrook's business units.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to the tools and platforms used with clients.
  • Study and prepare for the state Life & Health insurance license exam.
