Emergency Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Queens, NY is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Overnight ER Veterinary Assistant to join our team! This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting veterinarians with estimates, performing diagnostics, setting up patients in ICU or the Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication. The position requires assisting with nursing care, maintaining cleanliness of ER and ICU areas, understanding common medications and their side effects, administering medications under guidance, performing radiography and lab work, conducting physical exams, and staying current on CPR guidelines.
Requirements
- Knowledgeable and skilled Overnight ER Veterinary Assistant
- Ability to triage emergency cases
- Ability to assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates
- Ability to perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc)
- Ability to set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward
- Ability to discharge patients
- Ability to handle client communication
- Proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor

Responsibilities
- Assist with nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Stock, clean and maintain cleanliness in our ER, ICU and other designated areas for the role.
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration under the guidance of an LVT.
- Perform radiography and lab work.
- Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Engage with our clients by performing triages, going over estimates and providing discharge instruction.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
