About The Position

Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital is seeking veterinarians passionate about working in emergency medicine for our 6-month training and mentorship program. We are looking for individuals who are team oriented, driven, reflective, and reliable to train with us and transition into an ER position at NIVES. The ER Immerse Program will prepare veterinarians for a sustainable and satisfying career in emergency medicine. Built from the "ground up" to be different than traditional rotating internship programs, the ERi program has been developed around a curriculum of core competencies essential for an emergency veterinarian. In addition to providing training around clinical knowledge and skills, the program also includes a focus on client and team member communication, professional skills, and life/work integration. The ER Immerse program utilizes a hybrid training approach incorporating simulation-based didactic components into authentic training experiences with live patients. The curriculum is designed using an evidence-based strategy identifying competencies and skills deemed essential for a successful career as an emergency clinician.

Responsibilities

Train with experienced veterinarians in emergency medicine.
Transition into an ER position at NIVES.
Participate in daily case rounds with board-certified specialists, ER clinicians, and technicians.
Engage in simulation-based didactic components and authentic training experiences with live patients.
Focus on client and team member communication, professional skills, and life/work integration.
Complete asynchronous learning on Vetbloom and weekly live virtual didactic rounds.
Attend regular live continuing education events led by specialists and experienced emergency doctors.
Work a 5-day work week consisting of 4 clinical days, 1 didactic day, and 2 days off each week.
Be paired with a specific mentor and mirror their schedule for the first 3 months.
Transition to swing shifts after month 3, depending on comfort level.
Avoid overnights until approved by mentor and hospital leadership.
Receive surgical training with board-certified surgeons.
Become certified as a RESCUER through our RECOVER certified instructor.
