About The Position

The Emergency Vehicle Technician inspects, diagnoses, maintains, and repairs emergency vehicles so they are safe, reliable, and ready for service. The position supports fire apparatus, ambulances, and other designated emergency vehicles and coordinates with vehicle operators, fleet staff, vendors, and department leadership to limit downtime.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Formal, documented technical training and at least five years of documented emergency vehicle repair experience.
  • Documentation of current Emergency Vehicle Technician certification level, with the ability to complete and maintain Level III certification.
  • Relevant Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
  • Experience with fleet maintenance software and electronic work orders.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing automotive, medium-duty, or heavy-duty vehicles
  • Working knowledge of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems and the ability to use diagnostic tools and service information.
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain authorization to operate assigned tactical and non-tactical military vehicles.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and inspection records.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card for installation access.
  • Knowledge of applicable workplace safety practices and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to perform the physical and field duties described in the final job description, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
  • Strong customer service, verbal communication, and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • State-issued Class A commercial driver’s license.
  • Department of Defense security clearance.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing military vehicles.
  • Knowledge of Army maintenance regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Service chassis, engines, drivetrains, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, HVAC, and vehicle-specific systems within the technician’s qualifications.
  • Diagnose and repair emergency lighting, warning devices, communications-related vehicle components, and auxiliary power systems.
  • Inspect and service specialized equipment, such as fire pumps, aerial devices, or ambulance systems, when included in the assigned fleet and within the technician’s qualifications.
  • Document work performed, parts used, inspection results, and vehicles returned to service.
  • Identify safety defects, remove unsafe vehicles from service when required, and communicate repair priorities promptly.
  • Coordinate warranty work, outside repairs, parts procurement, and scheduled maintenance.
  • Follow manufacturer instructions, applicable standards, workplace safety procedures, and department policies.
  • Provide technical guidance to operators on vehicle care and reported defects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
