About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and maintains heavy equipment to keep it safe and available for operation. This position works on systems such as diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, electrical components, and powertrains.

Requirements

  • Experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, construction equipment, or similar machinery.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and parts diagrams.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely.
  • Valid state driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain authorization to operate assigned tactical and non-tactical military vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • State-issued Class A commercial driver’s license.
  • Department of Defense security clearance.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing military vehicles.
  • Knowledge of Army maintenance regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and scheduled services.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems using manuals and diagnostic tools.
  • Repair or replace engines, transmissions, pumps, hoses, brakes, and other components.
  • Test equipment after repairs and confirm it operates safely.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and equipment condition.
  • Identify needed repairs and communicate equipment status to supervisors and operators.
  • Follow safety procedures when using tools, lifting equipment, and handling fluids.
