About The Position

Geisinger is seeking a motivated Emergency Room Technician I committed to delivering the highest quality care to patients. This role requires reliability, punctuality, and strong attendance, with a focus on teamwork and communication. The technician will perform basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, maintaining the patient care and unit environment according to policies and procedures. They will also be responsible for triaging patient care by identifying, observing, and documenting patient and family needs, reporting changes in patient condition, and assisting with various procedures such as wound care, splinting, and EKGs. The position involves patient care related to rehabilitation, unit desk clerk functions, obtaining and maintaining specimen integrity, blood glucose monitoring, and assisting with transporting patients and medications. The role also includes assisting patients with daily activities and coordinating relations between care providers, patients, and visitors. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment, and the employee must comply with all organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
• Basic Life Support Certification
• Reliability, punctuality, and strong attendance
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills
• Ability to meet both the orientation and long-term full-time scheduling requirements of the role.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic patient care under supervision of the Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with the policies, procedures and practices.
• Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area.
• Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
• Triages patient care by identifying, observing and documenting the physical needs of the patient and families.
• Reports changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse.
• Assists patient care staff by performing the following procedures: wound care, splinting, and EKG’s.
• Provides patient care that may relate to rehabilitation to carry out multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
• Provides unit desk clerk functions when needed.
• Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
• Uses two patient identifiers with proper labeling.
• Blood glucose monitoring.

• Assist with transporting patients into and out of the department to other areas of the hospital for tests.
• Will transport medications to and from pharmacy and within the unit along with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank.
• Assists patients with daily activities including undressing and dressing as well as lifting and positioning them to complete certain procedures.
• Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supply areas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary to meet the needs of the clinic and unit.
• Coordinate relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
