The ER Tech is responsible for all basic patient care duties. This includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic treatment as ordered by the physician on duty, operation of laboratory equipment, patient discharge, and education. The ER Tech will triage all patients upon arrival to determine their location of treatment (Emergency room versus urgent care), provide general patient care including therapeutic and diagnostic intervention, and provide age and education-specific education to all patients. The role also involves maintaining a clean work environment, which may include duties such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters. The ER Tech must follow all company policies, including HIPAA policies and procedures, and encourage a work environment that is friendly and respectful. They will provide patients and their families with a customer-focused, friendly, reassuring, and open environment that encourages patient participation in health care decisions. The ER Tech must accurately interpret a physician’s instructions and assist the physician on duty with the treatment of patients. Communication with the physician regarding patient needs and client feedback, and with the operations coordinator regarding observations, is essential. The role includes administering medications, collecting specimens, and conducting laboratory tests, while reviewing and upholding lab policies and procedures. Collaboration with health team members is crucial to ensure patient well-being. The ER Tech will execute physician orders, including administration of medications, treatments, and IVs according to policy and procedure, and observe and document the patient's response to pertinent medications. Preparing specimens and operating lab equipment are also key responsibilities. The position requires 100% attendance at mandatory skills training yearly, maintaining all required professional certifications and licenses, participating in facility certifications, and maintaining CEUs. Completing assigned education on time and attending a minimum of four staff meetings (reading and signing minutes of any missed meetings) are also required. Patient education and discharge instructions are part of the role, as is following infection control and OSHA safety guidelines.
