About The Position

Cascade AIDS Project (CAP) is seeking a skilled and team-oriented Emergency Rent Assistance Coordinator to join their Housing and Support Services department. This role provides essential services to people living with HIV, including completing emergency rental assistance applications and CAP intakes, offering information and referral, goal planning, advocacy, and eviction prevention services. The position is based at the Davis St office in Portland, OR, and involves occasional travel within the five-county service area. CAP is the oldest and largest AIDS Service Organization (ASO) in Oregon and Southwest Washington, dedicated to promoting well-being and advancing equity through inclusive health and wellness services for the LGBTQ+ community, people affected by HIV, and all seeking compassionate care.

Requirements

  • Two years’ professional work experience in social services
  • Prior experience providing short term case management (or similar) services
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) and working knowledge of the internet
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Successful experience working with ethnic, racial, economic and sexually diverse populations and persons who have experienced homelessness and/or persons with a mental illness and/or substance addiction
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with community stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Establish rapport with clients using a supportive strengths-based model that promotes client self-determination and independence.
  • Complete emergency rent assistance applications with clients and negotiate payment with clients and landlords.
  • Complete comprehensive housing assessments, goal planning, linkage to services, and advocacy for and with clients.
  • Schedule and complete intake assessments for clients who wish to engage in services at CAP.
  • Create paper files for new CAP clients.
  • Work in collaboration with medical case managers, medical providers, or other providers involved in client care, including other CAP staff to provide coordinated comprehensive care to PLWHA with a focus on housing stability.
  • Make appropriate referrals to mental health, substance abuse, HIV prevention, or other community partners as needed to support client self-sufficiency.
