About The Position

This role is for an Emergency Medicine Physician at Allina Health's New Ulm location. The Emergency Department sees 9.5K visits annually and is an eleven-bed ED, designated as a Level IV Trauma Center and Stroke Ready. The team consists of six ED physicians with strong support including full-time hospitalist coverage, general surgeons, orthopedics, OB, podiatrists, pediatricians, psychiatry, and CRNAs. There is 24/7 access to system service lines like Mental Health, Cardiology, Neurology, and Pediatrics. The department uses Epic with Dragon dictation and facilitates easy transfers to an affiliated tertiary care hospital network. The position offers 12-hour shifts with flexible scheduling, including the ability to schedule straight day shifts and block schedules for commute needs. Local house sharing options are available. An Express Care Clinic is open daily and staffed by clinic providers. This is a hospital-employed model with a straight hourly rate and 1.5x holiday pay. The location is 1.5 hours from the Twin Cities.

Requirements

  • MD, DO, or foreign equivalency training required
  • Completion of 2 years emergency medicine residency, in good standing with residency and compliance with moonlighting regulations
  • Active, non-restricted medical license in MN (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain MN DEA certification and National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Ability to meet criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and hospital privileges, if applicable
  • ACLS/BLS
  • ATLS or CALS
  • PALS

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care and immediate recognition, evaluation, care and stabilization of adult and pediatric patients
  • Provide immediate decision-making and action necessary to prevent death or any further disability in the prehospital setting by directing emergency medical technicians and in the emergency department
  • Review patient medical history while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation
  • Evaluate, interpret, and coordinate information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care
  • Provide education, consultation or intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families
  • Practice with consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy, and legal responsibilities
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary team approach to case management
  • May provide care in an ambulatory clinic, inpatient or outpatient hospital setting
  • Utilize quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in the delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or workflows
