About The Position

Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC) is seeking an Emergency Medicine (EM) clinical pharmacy specialist to provide pharmaceutical care services within the emergency department (ED). This role primarily covers Parkview Hospital Randallia (PVH) with some cross-coverage for Parkview Regional Medical Center (PRMC). The specialist will enhance the multidisciplinary approach to care, optimize medication therapy for triage and initial care, and focus on clinical services including consults (pharmacokinetics, anticoagulation, antimicrobial dosing), clinical questions, emergency response, and coordination of medication needs with nurses and providers. Collaboration with Medication Reconciliation Interns for medication histories and developing best possible medication lists is also part of the role. This position offers the benefit of being part of an established clinical pharmacy program with strong relationships with physicians and other care providers. It is a 0.8 FTE evenings position with full-time benefits, focused on the Parkview Hospital Randallia campus.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited institution.
  • PGY1 residency or equivalent years of experience at minimum.
  • Board certification in emergency medicine or critical care within two (2) years if not previously obtained.
  • Desire to be a preceptor of students and residents.
  • Meet or willingness to meet the ASHP Residency Preceptor Qualifications.
  • High level of clinical practice skills.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to interact effectively with students, health professionals, and patients.

Nice To Haves

  • PGY2 residency in critical care or emergency medicine (or equivalent years of experience) is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pharmaceutical care services to patients within the emergency department (ED).
  • Optimize medication therapy for triage and initial care needs for patients.
  • Focus on clinical services through consults (e.g., pharmacokinetics, anticoagulation, antimicrobial dosing), clinical questions, activate responses, and coordination of other medication needs for patients with nurses and providers.
  • Provide cross-coverage for community hospital ED through consults or specific complex patient assessment.
  • Collaborate with Medication Reconciliation Interns for completing medication histories and participating in developing the best possible medication lists.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary rounding.
  • Participate in graduate medical education engagement.
