About The Position

Reporting to the Southwest EMS Operations Manager, the Emergency Medical Technician - Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) is responsible for responding to emergent and non-emergent EMS calls for service; and for providing initial assessment, treatment, stabilization, and transport of ill or injured persons at the Basic Life Support level. The PCP will provide care with strict adherence to: Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) core values, policies, and work standards; Saskatchewan College of Paramedics (SCoP) Paramedic Clinical Practice Protocols; The Paramedics Act and SCoP Regulatory and Administrative Bylaws; and The Saskatchewan Ambulance Act and Regulations. Requirements

  • Primary Care Paramedic diploma (PCP)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR)
  • Automated External Defibrillator Certificate (AED)
  • Valid Class 4 driver's license
  • International Trauma Life Support Certificate (ITLS)
  • Registered Emergency Medical Technician/Primary Care Paramedic (EMT/PCP)
  • Intermediate - Conflict resolution skills
  • Advanced - Listening skills
  • Advanced - Interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of EMS Practitioners legislation/protocols/scope of practice
  • Familiar with the SK Ministry of Health Ambulance Information System
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work independently
  • Decision making through the application of knowledge and critical thinking
  • Positive approach to deal with challenging situations with empathy and sincerity
  • Demonstrates the ability to be resourceful and to adapt to changing conditions
  • Ability to function effectively in high stress and in emergency situations
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Decision making through the application of clinical, legal & ethical practice
  • Registered/eligible with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics at PCP/EMT level
  • Computer skills, where required
  • Must be Available a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours per 3 week period
  • Must be available all shifts, short shifts, short notice calls, stats and holidays, where applicable
