Emergency Medical Technician 2 Pediatrics
About The Position
Inova Children's Hospital is looking for a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician to join the Pediatric Emergency Department. This role will be full-time evening shift, 3PM-3 AM - orientation shifts may vary. Three 12-hour shifts weekly, days vary. Candidates must be available to work any weekdays when scheduled. Requirements
- 1 year of EMT-B experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- BLS and EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMT License/Certification
Responsibilities
- Provides accurate documentation of all procedures and therapies in patients' medical records and all specimens.
- Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens.
- Cleans and dresses wounds per physician orders and performs surgical preparation of wounds according to protocol and assists with application/removal of sutures.
- Documents all required fields in medical records, computer entries and charges.
- Applies orthopedic splinting devices.
- Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures.
- Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment.
- Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit).
- Performs 12 lead ECG and places patients on continuous cardiac monitoring.
- Performs patient phlebotomy following department/facility policies and procedures.
- Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to assist with optimum care.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
