About The Position

Acadian Ambulance Service offers an accelerated, paid training program for people pursuing a career as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). Trainees attend a Monday–Friday class for approximately 10 days, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The training location is to be determined. Selected trainees are full-time employees while attending class and are paid $11 per hour. Acadian pays tuition, books, and fees in exchange for a commitment to work as an EMR for Acadian Ambulance for one year after completing the course and passing the certification exam. Course charges apply if the trainee does not complete the class, and employment ends immediately if the trainee does not pass. Successful graduates become EMRs, earn $13.50 per hour, and may have opportunities for overtime. Employment during training is contingent on satisfactory drug-screen, background, motor-vehicle, and physical-lift test results. A Louisiana Class D chauffeur’s driver’s license is required to work as an EMR. The posting also describes potential advancement to EMT or Paramedic roles with tuition assistance, as well as Air Med, EMS educator, EMS leadership, and remote paramedicine opportunities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current, valid state-issued driver's license meeting applicable state requirements, equivalent to a Louisiana Class D driver's license.
• Obtain a Louisiana Class D chauffeur's driver's license to work as an EMR.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate professionally and effectively with employees and managers.
• Ability to write simple correspondence or reports.
• Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations to employees and/or managers.
• Ability to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.
• Satisfactory drug-screen, background, motor-vehicle, and physical-lift test results are required for employment during training.
• Successful completion of the course and passing the certification exam are required to become an EMR.

Responsibilities

• Attend and successfully complete the accelerated EMR training course.
• Pass the certification exam to qualify for work as an EMR.
• After completing the course and passing the exam, work as an EMR for Acadian Ambulance for one year.
• Drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.
