About The Position

The Emergency Medical Education (EME) faculty member is responsible for providing high-quality, learner-centered instruction to students enrolled in EMR, EMT, or Paramedic courses (depending on certification and program needs) while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or higher degree.
  • Current or eligible for certification as a Kansas EMT.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of field experience as an EMT or higher level of EMS certification.
  • AHA BLS provider certification, with the ability to obtain instructor status within one year of employment.
  • Demonstrated high-level EMS skills.
  • Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated time-management, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer skills.
  • Able to utilize instructional technology to deliver course content.
  • Able to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback.
  • Able to utilize student-centered teaching to meet the learning needs of a diverse population.
  • Able to promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving among educational participants.
  • Able to work in a student-centered, team environment.
  • Able to multitask to meet multiple demands.
  • Able to communicate effectively with a diverse population.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Kansas and National Registry certified Paramedic.
  • Previous EMS instructional experience with an emergency service agency, hospital, or educational institution.
  • AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS Instructor Certification.
  • Experience using a learning management system (ex, Blackboard).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and revise the EME curriculum to meet the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards as adopted by the Kansas Board of EMS and the programmatic accreditor.
  • Prepare course syllabi addressing any required pre-requisites, learning outcomes and competencies, methods of instruction, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and other course policies as required.
  • Deliver instructional content using appropriate educational methodologies to achieve learning outcomes and competencies.
  • Provides regular and timely reports to students of academic performance.
  • Collaborate with the Lab Coordinator and Lab Assistants in instructional and lab activities.
  • Submit required documentation to the Kansas Board of EMS for course approval and course audits.
  • Adhere to all College and external accreditor deadlines for submitting reports and records related to student learning and student outcomes.
  • Maintain student and course records in accordance with Kansas Board of EMS regulations and College policies.
  • Collaborate with Program Director, Program Medical Director, and Program Faculty to ensure the Program provides quality education and adheres to Kansas Board of EMS and programmatic accreditation standards.
  • Attend EMS Advisory Committee meetings and provide reports on student/cohort performance, program needs, and other relevant information.
  • Enforce all policies and regulations that govern safe and ethical student practices in the EME program.
  • Attend regular department and division meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
