About The Position

The Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) supports the University’s mission by developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive emergency management and continuity programs. Reporting to the Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management, the EMC works collaboratively across departments to ensure the University is prepared to respond to and recover from emergencies and disruptive events. The EMC also serves as a key liaison with local, regional, and federal emergency management agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Homeland Security, or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in emergency management, continuity planning, or public safety operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), and emergency planning best practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-pressure situations.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required certifications and clearances.
  • Availability for after-hours, weekend, and holiday response as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and implement university-wide emergency operations and continuity of operations plans (COOP).
  • Coordinate preparedness initiatives including drills, tabletop exercises, and training programs for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on emergency management, providing guidance and support to departments on risk mitigation and response planning.
  • Monitor and assess threats and hazards that may impact the university; maintain situational awareness and provide timely updates to leadership.
  • Support the activation and operation of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during incidents.
  • Collaborate with campus police, facilities, health services, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated emergency response.
  • Maintain and test emergency communication systems, including mass notification tools.
  • Participate in after-action reviews and develop improvement plans following incidents or exercises.
  • Serve in an on-call capacity for emergency response and support 24/7 operations as needed.
