This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) vacancy in the Mesa Fire and Medical Department. This position coordinates the preparation and implementation of the City’s Emergency Management Plan, Emergency Operations Plan updates, Continuity of Operations Plans, hazard mitigation planning efforts, and related procedures. The role involves working directly with the City’s Emergency Manager, Mesa Fire and Medical Department Emergency Management Staff, Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management, and the State of Arizona Division of Emergency Management for plan direction and coordination with other City departments. Responsibilities include supporting the development and implementation of emergency management plans, procedures, training, and exercises; managing the administrative functions of the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Tactical Operations Center (TOC); and overseeing the Emergency Response Notification system. The Emergency Management Coordinator may also lead emergency preparedness programs such as the Community Emergency Response Team program and the Stop the Bleed program, with support from the Mesa Fire and Medical Department Emergency Management Fire Captain and other public safety partners. Additionally, this position may research, analyze, and coordinate emergency management grants and programs to enhance the City’s capabilities in planning and preparing for emergencies and disaster mitigation. This civilian class is supervised by a Police Commander, Police Sergeant, Emergency Manager, or a designated public safety supervisor. The Coordinator actively participates in local and state committees and meetings but requires approval from the Police Sergeant or City’s Emergency Manager before committing specific resources. This role requires working before, during, and after emergency incidents, potentially including evenings, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather. Work schedules and locations are subject to change. This class is FLSA exempt-administrative.
