About The Position

Under the general direction of Emergency Management leadership, the Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) supports the day‑to-day operations, implementation, and evaluation of the Emergency Management Program for assigned ministries. This role assists in preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery activities that ensure organizational readiness and regulatory compliance. The EMC works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support a consistent and resilient approach to emergency preparedness across the ministry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, hospital administration, emergency management, or related field. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience in business, emergency and/or hospital services, and/or related field.
  • FEMA Independent Study (IS) coursework required or required within specified timeframe.
  • Ability to identify complex problems related to emergency preparedness in the healthcare industry.
  • Review and research relevant information to develop and evaluate options and implement effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated critical‑thinking and analytical skills.
  • Possess strong organizational skills, including the ability to work with diverse staff at all organizational levels.
  • Capable of supporting team efforts and moving from conceptual stage to planning and implementation with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Able to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Proficiency in software skills, including the use of electronic email, business presentation software, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to interpret and apply emergency management concepts, terminology, and frameworks (e.g., all‑hazards principles, NIMS/HICS concepts) in daily work.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), or Professional Emergency Manager (PEM) certification preferred.
  • Ability to use and create relational databases preferred.
  • Comfort with data tracking and report development is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining an integrated emergency management program that aligns with The Joint Commission’s Emergency Management standards and the Centers for Medica re & Medicaid Services (CMS) Emergency Preparedness requirements, and complies with Federal, State, Regional, and County regulations.
  • Support activities and documentation needed to maintain continuous regulatory readiness.
  • Support Emergency Management leadership in coordinating and conducting all emergency management program meetings and committee activities.
  • Assist with preparing agendas, templates, plans, materials, and documentation; ensure required information is distributed and maintained; and support follow‑up actions and compliance with regulatory meeting expectations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary committees that support the emergency management program, including the Environment of Care Committee and other required oversight groups.
  • Provide updates, reports, and information to support committee decision‑making and ensure regulatory expectations for committee participation and documentation are met.
  • Support ongoing compliance with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) by assisting with the integration of NIMS principles across emergency management plans, training, exercises, communications, and incident command structure requirements, in alignment with regulatory standards.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the emergency management education and training program, including HICS and NIMS requirements, initial and ongoing staff training, role‑specific incident command training, and all associated documentation and compliance tracking required by regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain all required emergency management documentation, including plans, assessments, records, lists, training and exercise documentation, communications elements, and other materials required by Joint Commission, CMS, and applicable regulatory standards, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and ongoing compliance.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and compliance of all emergency management communications requirements, including emergency notification and contact lists, communication plans, communication testing processes, alternate communication methods, and related communication equipment, in alignment with regulatory and accreditation standards.
