About The Position

This position provides direct patient care under the supervision of a primary care nurse or charge nurse in the Emergency Department. Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, performing EKGs, wound care, assisting with procedures, preparing patients for discharge, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The role also requires effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  • One (1) year experience in an acute care hospital setting, preferably emergency department or one year pre-hospital experience as an EMT.
  • Ability to speak English and have legible handwriting.
  • Knowledge of spelling, grammar, and basic arithmetic.
  • Skill in dealing with the public and telephone courtesy.
  • Skill in proper use of body mechanics.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current OR cert as an EMT.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care including activities of daily living, ambulation, dressing, feeding, and toiletry needs.
  • Reports any changes in patient status to the primary care nurse.
  • Ascertains and records accurate vital signs, reporting abnormal findings.
  • Assists nursing staff in gathering patient care information.
  • Accurately performs twelve lead EKG tracings.
  • Performs duties as assigned and supervised by the primary care nurse or charge nurse, such as pulse oximetry, orthostatic vital signs, and specimen collection.
  • Provides wound cleaning and applies dressings not requiring sterile technique.
  • Assists nurses and doctors with procedures and safely transports patients' supplies and specimens.
  • Prepares patients for dismissal by removing equipment and providing transportation.
  • Splints sprains/fractures on extremities under the direction of a physician.
  • Completes clinical competencies and documents accurately.
  • Stocks and cleans patient treatment areas.
  • Maintains proficient communication and interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and coworkers.
  • Responds promptly and courteously to patients' and families' needs.
  • Demonstrates competence in relation to the defined mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
