The Emergency Department Registered Nurse provides care in a Level II Trauma Center with a Level IV NICU, 60 total beds, and an average daily volume of 140–150 patients. The emergency department treats patients from pediatrics through geriatrics, including high-acuity cases such as trauma, gunshot wounds, sepsis, COVID-19, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health issues, respiratory problems, adult psychiatric conditions, and chest pain. The standard patient ratio is 1:4 and may flex to 1:5 for low-acuity patients. The role requires strong emergency department experience and proficiency with cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV skills, drips and medication administration, procedural sedation, blood administration, and cardiac medications. Epic experience is required. The department uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and central and bedside telemetry monitoring. Travelers complete an initial orientation, including badge issuance and Epic training if needed, followed by three to four preceptor shifts on their assigned shift. A traveler telemetry competency is required. Shifts include days, mids, evenings, and nights; day/mid or night/mid assignments may be adjusted during the contract, although consistent shifts are preferred. Schedules are released two weeks before the start date. The role includes an every-other-weekend rotation, occasional floating between regional locations with prior notice, and potentially mid-shift floating, though this is not routine. Time off approval is limited to up to five days. Holiday expectations are three out of five major holidays; the provided posting lists Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day before ending mid-list.
