About The Position

West Chester Township Emergency Communications Department is accepting applications for the position of Communications Supervisor (Dispatch Supervisor). The Communications Supervisor will manage the day-to-day operations of the Communications Center during assigned work hours. They will manage the personnel scheduling for Communications Officers and other Supervisors; develop and enforce the policies and procedures for the department/township; Prepare training materials for new hires and update/refresh current employees as needed. They will also perform all the job functions of the Communications Officer. Communication Officers process emergency and non-emergency calls for service and dispatch Police, Fire, and EMS using computer-aided dispatch technology.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of emergency dispatch experience
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, holidays, and weekends
  • Ability to perform under stressful, demanding, fast-paced conditions involving life and death situations

Nice To Haves

  • Strong/advanced communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Knowledgeable on policy and standard operating procedures/guidelines
  • Able to exercise sound judgement and remain calm in the midst of stressful situations
  • Teamwork and basic supervisory skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer usage
  • Able to type at least 45 wpm accurately
  • Use of multiple computers, including 6-7 computer monitors simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
