About The Position

Oversees Emergency Communications Center operations and provides coordination and technical expertise for Computer Aided Dispatch and E 9-1-1 Telephonic Systems, including mapping for all PSAPs in Seminole County. Provides support and direction to staff including discipline, education and evaluations. Provides operational direction for various portions of the Fire/EMS dispatch. Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. Additional compensation based on licensure.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school/GED and five ( 5) years experience, or a combination of education and technology or closely related field.
  • Knowledge of Windows NT software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems .
  • Must possess and maintain certification as an APCO Communications Supervisor.
  • Must possess and maintain certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher.
  • Must possess and maintain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician License.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents relating to programs utilized in the E 9-1-1 System.
  • Ability to utilize database programs, computers and associated software programs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to make effective presentations before large and small audiences.
  • Ability to utilize geographic information systems in the operation of CAD and mapping operations.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets GIS mapping associated with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) information and associated files.
  • Supervises assigned personnel.
  • Functions as a necessary Team Member in the Emergency Communications Center.
  • Develops work plans to ensure the Emergency Communications Center operates in an effective manner.
  • Develops short- and long-range goals and objectives for the Emergency Communications Center.
  • Coordinates mapping program for all public safety answering points (PSAPs) in Seminole County.
  • Establishes work schedules to ensure appropriate staffing in the Emergency Communications Center.
  • Performs technical support for computer aided dispatch system.
  • Complies with Department and Division policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates education programs for the Emergency Communications Center.
  • Maintains effective communications with vendors and technical experts in association with efficient operation of equipment and software.
  • Participates as a member of the countywide Communications Users Group and attends other meetings as requested.
  • Participates as a member of the Seminole County 911 Manager’s Group.
  • Reads and becomes familiar with software programs and associated documentation to ensure the effective operation of the Computer Aided Dispatch System.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, when required.
