About The Position

The Mental Health Director provides clinical and administrative leadership for psychiatric operations, interfacing with the Health System enterprise transfer center, Emergency Medicine Department, Psychiatry consultation/liaison service, and referral sources. The Director leads CONNECT (Psychiatry and Addictions/Chemical Dependency), including developing and implementing policies and procedures and establishing and complying with standards of care. The role oversees CONNECT staff recruitment, retention, supervision, professional growth, and clinical development. It administers department finances, addresses budget variances, supports program planning, and provides outcome data. The Director leads benchmarked, data-driven quality programs, champions continuous improvement, compliance, engagement, and satisfaction, and provides trending data, analysis, and corrective action planning. The Director monitors the quality of assessments and treatment provided by CONNECT and the Ambulatory Intensive Care Continuum staff through direct observation, documentation audits, and monitoring recorded telephone communications. The role maintains relationships with Community Service Boards, hospital emergency departments, Catawba State Hospital, and other community-based service recipients, and provides routine direct clinical care within CONNECT as needed.

Requirements

Master's degree required.
Minimum 7 years of experience in acute and intensive outpatient psychiatric nursing, psychology, or clinical social work services.
Minimum 5 years of management experience in a community hospital setting.
Virginia Registered Nurses License, Clinical Nurse Specialist, LCSW, LPC, or LCP.
Successfully complete de-escalation training within 4 months of hire and maintain it thereafter.
Obtain and maintain AHA BLS-HCP.

Responsibilities

Lead CONNECT (Psychiatry and Addictions/Chemical Dependency), including developing and implementing policies and procedures and establishing and complying with standards of care.
Communicate effectively with staff, patients, families, physicians, and referral sources.
Develop and administer department finances and implement corrective action on budget variances.
Support CONNECT staff in optimizing integrated IT, EPIC, Teletracking, and telecommunications platforms to improve data-driven clinical and quality outcomes.
Lead recruitment, retention, and all aspects of CONNECT staff supervision.
Lead staff professional growth and clinical development programs.
Provide program planning and outcome data.
Lead benchmarked performance and data-driven quality programs; promote benchmark performance, continuous quality improvement, compliance, engagement, and satisfaction.
Provide trending data, analysis, and corrective action planning.
Monitor the quality of assessments and treatment provided by CONNECT and Ambulatory Intensive Care Continuum staff through direct observation, documentation auditing, and monitoring recorded telephone communications.
Maintain relationships with Community Service Boards, hospital emergency departments, Catawba State Hospital, and other community-based services that receive CONNECT and Ambulatory Intensive Care Continuum services.
Provide routine direct clinical care within CONNECT as needed.
