Teradyne is seeking an experienced Lead Product Safety & Compliance Engineer to join our team in San Jose, California. In this highly visible role, you will lead product safety and EMC compliance efforts across multiple Teradyne divisions, helping ensure our products meet global regulatory requirements while supporting innovation throughout the product development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or Physics; or equivalent combined experience and education – which would include an associate’s degree or technical school certification or related military training in electronics
  • 2-5 years EMC test experience ; system-level EMC experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced lab environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Solid understanding of EMC/EMI test methods and concepts of subassembly/system level validation.
  • Must have good knowledge of EMC Standards such as IEC 61326-1 or equivalent.
  • Experience working with EMC test software such as EMCWare, Naxio, IEC.control, or equivalent tools.
  • Skilled in preparing technical documentation , test reports, and deviation summaries.
  • Ability to troubleshoot EMC test failures and diagnose and recommend design improvements.
  • Must have the ability to collaborate effectively with EMC team members as well as work independently.
  • Must possess excellent English communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation), along with strong teamwork abilities.

  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 environment a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support to drive EMC/EMI compliance projects across engineering teams from early development through product release.
  • Perform pre-compliance and formal compliance EMC testing and maintain associated technical documentation.
  • Set up, operate and maintain EMC test equipment such as EMI receivers, spectrum analyzers, VNA, LISNs, DC/single-phase/3-phase sources, Amplifiers, Comb Generators and related accessories.
  • Interpret and perform various EMC test methods- Radiated Emissions, Conducted Emissions, Electrostatic Discharge, Radiated Immunity, Electrical Fast-Transients, Surge, Conducted Immunity, Magnetic Field Immunity, Voltage Dips and Interrupts and Harmonics and Flicker etc.
  • Independently conduct EMC testing in semi-anechoic chamber, shielded room, and in-situ environments based on the system location and feasibility.
  • Lead and execute EMC testing projects in accordance with the schedules.
  • Troubleshooting and mitigation techniques for design deviations and failures, to assist and provide recommendations to internal Hardware/Design teams.
  • Interface with external labs and regulatory bodies as needed during compliance projects.
  • Prepare EMC Test plans, Test Procedures, participate in the EMC Design reviews and perform EMC requirement analysis.
  • Actively contributes to continuous improvement efforts and supports required lab upgrades.
  • Support team in maintaining a clean, well-organized and safe test lab environment.
