About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team as an Embryologist II (FGP) - OB/GYN, IVF. The Embryologist II is a mid-level position that performs basic clinical laboratory techniques independently under the supervision of laboratory leadership and at the direction of Senior Embryologists. This position also assists senior staff with advanced clinical laboratory techniques and duties. Detail-oriented data entry and functionality with laboratory software are required. This position includes holiday and weekend rotations and requires a team-oriented workflow. It also interfaces with the research and ancillary components of the program.

Requirements

  • A Bachelors degree or equivalent in a chemical, physical, biological, medical technology, clinical or reproductive laboratory science from an accredited institution.
  • 1+ years in a clinical laboratory setting performing basic embryology techniques with experience in in-vitro fertilization.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately with patients, physicians, nursing staff and co-workers.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs in weight for stocking and inventory responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Embryology Laboratory Scientist (AAB) certification.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Study and review Embryology Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and be familiar with quality control, quality assurance, safety procedures and operating guidelines for performing laboratory services.
  • Study and comply with OSHA requirements and HIPAA regulations and utilize universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrate sufficient competency to perform basic ART procedures and quality control independently, including: laboratory cleaning and monitoring, receipt and testing of media and supplies, preparation and labeling of media and tissue culture materials and dishes, equipment maintenance and quality control, sperm preparation for ART, sperm cryopreservation (if applicable) and thaw, oocyte retrieval and preparation for culture and insemination, conventional IVF (in vitro fertilization) insemination, fertilization assessment, embryo handling, culture, and grading, embryo vitrification and warming, laser assisted hatching, handling of liquid nitrogen, cryopreserved specimens and maintenance and monitoring of cryo-storage tanks, fresh specimen discard, participation in cryopreserved specimen discard with laboratory leadership as necessary, receipt and release of cryopreserved specimens as necessary.
  • Participate and develop proficiency in advanced ART procedures under the direct supervision of Senior Embryologists or laboratory leadership, including: embryo transfer, oocyte vitrification, Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), and participating in laboratory efforts to research and improve the quality of laboratory services.
  • Maintain records of training in each procedure.
  • Maintain and ensure chain of custody for all specimens in the laboratory.
  • Record and report laboratory monitoring, quality control, and patient results in the electronic medical record system and/or the appropriate written format, spreadsheets, databases, or laboratory software.
  • Data entry to SART and NASS, if applicable.
  • Communicate with patients and clinical staff as needed.
  • Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide a high level of patient care and service.
  • Attend practice and department meetings.
  • Learn and maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, society meetings, reviewing publications, and establishing personal networks.
