About The Position

This is an entry-level position for an Embryologist I, working under the direct supervision of Senior Embryologists, Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, and Laboratory Director. The role involves performing basic clinical laboratory techniques in the IVF Laboratory, including in vitro fertilization, gamete handling, insemination, and laboratory quality control. Detail-oriented data entry and proficiency with laboratory software are essential. This position requires participation in holiday and weekend rotations and emphasizes a team-oriented workflow.

Requirements

  • A Bachelors degree or equivalent in a chemical, physical, biological, medical technology, clinical or reproductive laboratory science from an accredited institution with one year of laboratory experience or demonstrated laboratory knowledge.
  • 0+ years of experience.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately with patients, physicians, nursing staff and co-workers.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs in weight for stocking and inventory responsibilities.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Study and review Embryology Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and become familiar with quality control, quality assurance, safety procedures and operating guidelines for performing laboratory services.
  • Study and comply with OSHA requirements and HIPAA regulations and utilize universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens.
  • Participate and develop proficiency in laboratory operations and laboratory services, including basic ART procedures and quality control, under the direct supervision of laboratory senior staff and management: laboratory cleaning and monitoring, receipt and testing of media and supplies, preparation and labeling of media and tissue culture materials and dishes, equipment maintenance and quality control, sperm preparation for ART, sperm cryopreservation (if applicable) and thaw, oocyte retrieval and preparation for culture and insemination, conventional IVF (in vitro fertilization) insemination, fertilization assessment, embryo handling, culture, and grading, embryo vitrification and warming, laser assisted hatching, handling of liquid nitrogen, cryopreserved specimens and maintenance and monitoring of cryo-storage tanks, participation in cryopreserved specimen and fresh specimen discard with laboratory as necessary, receipt and release of cryopreserved specimens as necessary.
  • Maintain records of training in each procedure.
  • Maintain and ensure chain of custody for all specimens in the laboratory.
  • Record and report laboratory monitoring, quality control, and patient results in the electronic medical record system and/or the appropriate written format, spreadsheets, databases, or laboratory software.
  • Data entry to SART and NASS, if applicable.
  • Communicate with patients and clinical staff as needed.
  • Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide a high level of patient care and service.
  • Attend practice and department meetings.
  • Learn and maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, society meetings, reviewing publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Document all continuing education activities.
