Embedded Systems Engineer

TrackonomySan Jose, CA

About The Position

Trackonomy is seeking an Embedded Systems Engineer to build full-stack hardware/firmware systems for customers delivering intelligent, automated technology solutions. This role involves overseeing system integration, hardware bring-up, firmware development, part validation, and managing the product lifecycle from prototype to mass production. Trackonomy is a unicorn company funded by top investors, pioneering a transformative network of interconnected objects to create the operating system for the connected world. Our solutions are used in logistics, industrial, utilities, healthcare, and government for applications like predictive maintenance, workflow optimization, asset protection, safety, security, and environmental monitoring.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
  • Solid C/C++ programming skills with a strong understanding of memory management and real-time constraints.
  • 4+ years working in bare metal and RTOS-based systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, etc.).
  • Competence in BLE, LoRa, or LTE, plus industrial standards (CAN, Modbus).
  • Skilled with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and power analyzers.

Responsibilities

  • System Architecture & Integration: Partner with electrical engineers to select components (MCUs, communication interfaces, power management units) based on system needs. Support the integration of hardware, firmware, and software systems for reliable operation.
  • Hardware Bring-Up: Bring up new hardware platforms and debug standard interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART) and communication protocols (CAN Bus, RS-485, Modbus). Troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues for reliable connectivity and system operation.
  • Firmware & System Logic: Develop low-level drivers and firmware. Design and implement robust Finite State Machines (FSMs) for system behavior and safety states. Develop firmware considering system reliability, performance, and real-time constraints.
  • Power & Efficiency: Develop and implement protocols to optimize energy consumption for battery-powered systems and sensors.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to integrate hardware and firmware into complete systems. Collaborate across engineering disciplines to troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues.
  • Testing & Validation: Design automated test fixtures for system sub-systems. Validate design integrity under dynamic conditions (vibration, thermal testing). Support product validation from prototype through production.
