About The Position

STMicroelectronics is seeking an Embedded Software Sensor Algorithm Intern for its Santa Clara, California office. This is an in-person internship lasting a minimum of six months and up to one year. The intern will develop and validate sensor-enabled robotic manipulation using IMU and ToF sensors, simulation, and real-world testing to improve grasp reliability and robot awareness. The role includes designing algorithms and data-collection experiments, integrating and verifying software on embedded platforms, contributing to activity-pattern recognition algorithms based on sensor data, and assisting with firmware development. The intern will support sensor software drivers and algorithms for robotics, mobile, wearable, industrial, and automotive platforms. The base hourly pay range is $32 to $43 USD.

Requirements

  • Working toward a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or an equivalent field.
  • Experience implementing algorithms on embedded platforms using C and C++.
  • Experience with Python and tools used for machine-learning analysis and development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate sensor-enabled robotic manipulation using IMU and ToF sensors, simulation, and real-world testing to improve grasp reliability and robot awareness.
  • Design algorithms and data-collection experiments, and integrate and verify implementations on embedded platforms.
  • Contribute to novel algorithms that recognize activity patterns from sensor data for applications such as motion-tracking optical systems.
  • Assist in developing firmware for algorithm implementation on different platforms.
  • Design, develop, test, and deliver sensor software drivers and algorithms for robotics, mobile, wearable, industrial, and automotive platforms.

Benefits

  • Dedicated Employee Resource Groups for women and LGBTQIA+
  • Hybrid work arrangements are mentioned among the company's DEI and sustainability initiatives, though this internship is explicitly not remote and requires in-person attendance.
