About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Systems—Sensor Research and Analysis Division is seeking an Embedded Design Engineer to support its algorithm development efforts, with a focus on RF seeker signal-processing capabilities and concepts of operations. The division performs radar design, hardware builds, algorithm and software development, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and analysis across research, development, and operational tasks. The engineer will maintain familiarity with fielded systems supported by the division, investigate emerging RF seeker technologies, and develop studies that inform customers about seeker advancements. Studies may include provisional MATLAB modeling, closed-loop simulation, and validation on radar hardware. The engineer will present progress and findings to government and prime-contractor stakeholders and collaborate on radar development and testing activities. The position is based in the Huntsville–North Alabama area and is not remote or work-from-home. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and possess a final Secret clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain one.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field from an ABET-accredited institution and 2–4 years of experience in the design, development, and testing of real-time software applications and simulations; alternatively, a master's degree in one of those fields from an ABET-accredited institution with less than 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with embedded software programming in C, C++, or Python.
  • Excellent mathematics skills and/or good fundamentals in one or more of the following: signals and systems, digital signal processing, tracking algorithms, or electromagnetics.
  • Ability to apply relevant skills to radar modeling and simulation, antenna array theory, digital signal processing, tracking, algorithm development, and field testing of sensor systems.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Python, or similar scientific programming tools to implement mathematical or science-based phenomenology related to linear systems, digital signal processing, tracking, or electromagnetics.
  • Experience developing test plans at the component, subsystem, or system level, reducing data for test reporting, and developing test reports.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong technical background.
  • Positive, proactive attitude and enthusiasm for learning, collaborating, and tackling challenging engineering problems.
  • Must reside in the North Alabama area or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville–North Alabama area.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess a final Secret clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
