About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Systems Sensor Research and Analysis Division is seeking an Embedded Design Engineer to support algorithm development, with a focus on RF seeker signal processing capabilities and concepts of operations. The division performs radar design, hardware builds, algorithm and software development, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and analysis across research, development, and operational tasks. The engineer will maintain familiarity with fielded systems supported by the division, investigate emerging RF seeker technologies, and develop studies to inform customers about seeker technology advancements. Studies may include provisional MATLAB modeling, closed-loop simulation, and validation on radar hardware. The engineer will present study progress and findings to government and prime contractor stakeholders and collaborate with division colleagues on radar development and testing activities. This position is based in the Huntsville–North Alabama, Alabama area and is not remote. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate and must be U.S. citizens who possess, can maintain, or are eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field from an ABET-accredited institution and 2–4 years of experience in designing, developing, and testing real-time software applications and simulations; or a master’s degree in one of those fields from an ABET-accredited institution with less than 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience programming embedded software in C, C++, or Python.
  • Excellent mathematics skills and/or sound fundamentals in one or more of signals and systems, digital signal processing, tracking algorithms, or electromagnetics.
  • Ability to apply relevant skills to radar modeling and simulation, antenna array theory, digital signal processing, tracking, algorithm development, or field testing of sensor systems.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Python, or similar scientific programming tools to implement mathematical or science-based phenomena related to linear systems, digital signal processing, tracking, or electromagnetics.
  • Experience developing test plans, reducing data for test reporting, and developing test reports.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong technical background.
  • Proactive, positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning, collaboration, and challenging engineering problems.
  • Must reside in the North Alabama area or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville–North Alabama, Alabama area; this is not a remote or work-from-home position.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess and maintain a Final Secret Clearance, or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
