About The Position

At Thermo King, the Embedded Controls Hardware Architect will pioneer modern embedded controls hardware architectures and development practices across product lines and guide the creation of next-generation climate technology solutions. This technical leadership role owns the functional, technical, and integration architectures for embedded controls hardware, ensuring robust connectivity with Thermo King’s internal ecosystems and the external systems and devices used by customers, dealers, and partners. The architect partners with the architecture team and cross-functional colleagues to establish high-quality controls solutions and lead end-to-end development from concept through execution. The role defines and governs hardware architecture standards and roadmaps, selects technologies and platforms, develops reusable design processes and tools, and provides technical leadership and mentoring to controls hardware engineering teams. The work is onsite Monday through Thursday; on Fridays, employees may choose their work location based on work needs. Multi-region travel of up to 5% may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • Eight years of experience.
  • Proficiency in embedded controls hardware selection, PCB design, layout, schematic capture, and design/development tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, Siemens Xpedition, or PADS Professional.
  • Experience with signal-integrity design and controlled-impedance layer-stack-up techniques.
  • Experience with microprocessor and microcontroller architectures and communication links such as CAN and SPI, including their impact on embedded hardware design.
  • Experience selecting IoT wireless electronics hardware and designing products involving RF, analog, and digital electronics.
  • Knowledge of radio technologies and standards/certifications such as cellular, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
  • Experience with industrial connectivity protocols such as CAN, J1939, Modbus, MQTT, OPC-UA, secure IP-based protocols, and Automotive Ethernet (100Base-T1, 10Base-T1S).
  • Knowledge of UML, SysML, or MBSE for system modeling and design.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps tools such as GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills for working with cross-disciplinary software, hardware, and systems engineering teams.
