About The Position

This is a leave replacement position for the 26/27 school year for an ELL Teacher at Cascade. The role involves providing instruction to increase English communication skills, leading the development of the elementary school ELL program, documenting student progress, and collaborating with various stakeholders. The position requires a valid Washington State teacher's certificate with endorsements in Elementary Education and English Language Learner, and satisfactory evaluations. Experience and/or education in working with English Language Learning students, bilingual/bicultural students, GLAD models, ELPA assessments, and second language acquisition are preferred. Proficiency in computer technology for classroom management and communication, participation in professional learning communities, and knowledge of current ELL curriculum are also desired.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State teacher's certificate with endorsement in Elementary Education and English Language Learner
  • Satisfactory evaluations
  • Completion of Safe Schools web-based training is required as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and/or education in working with English Language Learning students in an elementary setting
  • Successful experience working with bilingual/bicultural students, and willingness to be flexible in the scheduling/support of students.
  • Successful experience working with GLAD models of instruction; ability to work well with adults in establishing learning goals for ELL students.
  • Successful experience with placing students based on assessment, and experience with the ELPA assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition and the effective methods of instruction for bilingual students at all stages of development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of English language proficiency standards and current common assessments.
  • Evidence of GLAD certification or willingness to be trained in the support of GLAD strategies for teaching staff.
  • Evidence of expertise using computer technology for classroom management, instruction, communicating with stakeholders, and program promotion.
  • Evidence of participation in professional learning communities, and willingness to support a variety of PLCs and data meetings at Lincoln as our ELL specialist.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current ELL curriculum and standard methodology.
  • Supervisory experience in directing work.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide thematic based instruction and activities designed to increase English communication skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) of students who are not performing at grade level.
  • Lead the development of a successful elementary school ELL program; commitment to a "push in" model of instruction.
  • Document ELL students' progress.
  • Maintain records as necessary for efficient procedures and evaluations.
  • Prepare for and participate in parent involvement activities.
  • Attend and participate in meetings designed to assist in conducting a strong program, and serve as Lincoln Elementary School's ELL specialist in district planning meetings.
  • Provide individual plans for each student for their continued course of study, and "track and follow" level 3 and 4 students toward their success.
  • Assist in the supervision and placement of all Bilingual students at our school.
  • Implement the requirements of IDEA Section 504 and ADA in the education of students.
  • Plan for and supervise paraeducators and student assistants.
  • Conduct home visits as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
