About The Position

The ELL/LEP/Reading specialist plays a critical role in supporting English Language Learners (ELL) and Limited English Proficient (LEP) students to achieve academic success through targeted reading instruction and language development. This position focuses on assessing students' language proficiency and literacy skills to design and implement effective instructional strategies tailored to diverse learning needs. The specialist collaborates closely with classroom teachers, administrators, and families to create an inclusive learning environment that fosters language acquisition and literacy growth. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Reading, Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification with endorsement or specialization in English as a Second Language (ESL), Bilingual Education, or Reading.
  • Demonstrated experience working with ELL/LEP students in an educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of language acquisition theories, reading instruction methodologies, and assessment tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • The required skills enable the specialist to accurately assess and address the unique language and literacy needs of ELL/LEP students, ensuring tailored instruction that promotes effective learning.
  • Strong communication skills facilitate collaboration with teachers, administrators, and families to create cohesive support systems.
  • Analytical skills are essential for interpreting assessment data and adjusting instructional strategies to maximize student progress.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in TESOL, Reading, Literacy Education, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching practices and differentiated instruction.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations related to ELL/LEP education and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages or experience working in multilingual educational environments.
  • Training or certification in specialized reading programs such as Orton-Gillingham or Wilson Reading System.
  • Preferred skills, such as knowledge of culturally responsive teaching and multilingual abilities, enhance the specialist’s capacity to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and implement inclusive practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of students' English language proficiency and reading abilities to identify individual learning needs.
