About The Position

This recruitment is for a supervisor position in the Food and Nutrition Services department. The role involves intermediate-level supervisory work in guiding, coordinating, and delivering eligibility programs and services within a unit of the Economic and Family Support Services Division. While work is constrained by federal, state, and county regulations, the employee exercises independent judgment and initiative within these boundaries. The position reports to an Eligibility Program Manager and Eligibility Program Administrator, and supervises eligibility specialist line staff. The hiring range for this position is $54,912.00 - $65,644.80, with initial placement typically at the entry level through the 35% percentile. Pay grade for this position is 20.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires three years of experience as an eligibility specialist or investigator in an eligibility program in North Carolina.
  • Requires strong computer skills, particularly with programs such as Word and Excel.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience training others.
  • 1 year of NC income maintenance supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, supervises, and participates in the delivery of eligibility programs and services.
  • Reviews casework, holds conferences, and assists eligibility specialist staff in resolving difficult or unusual case situations.
  • Interprets and provides guidance on regulations and procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains records, files, reports, and confidentiality.
  • Supervises eligibility specialists and/or support staff.
  • Evaluates performance of staff.
  • Provides recommendations for employment actions such as hiring, promotions, demotions, disciplinary actions, and dismissals.
  • Assigns cases to staff while maintaining a workload balance among all direct reports.
  • Implements changes in work procedures or processes to meet program or service demands and client needs.
  • Presents recommendations to management regarding program or divisional goals, objectives, procedures, or processes.
  • Provides input to management on administrative and/or budgetary issues.
  • Enforces policies and procedures and ensures compliance.
  • Handles difficult clients and cases.
  • Conducts team meetings and monthly conferences.
  • Supports divisional and agency goals and objectives.
  • Participates in long-range planning for the division.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Maintains records, files, and confidentiality.
  • Conducts interviews, determines eligibility, and completes case reviews for public assistance programs, including Food and Nutrition, Medicaid (Family and Children’s Medicaid and Adult Medicaid), as needed.
  • Performs duties related to disaster situations and emergency shelter operations.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
