About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES), Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Eligibility Specialist. DDD provides individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families, services and supports that are flexible, high quality, and member driven. These services provide individuals with opportunities to exercise their rights and responsibilities of independent decision-making and engagement in the community. Applicants for this position cannot be licensed or certified by the DDD Office of Licensing Certification and Regulation, cannot have a principal interest in or have a spouse or close family with principal interest in a DDD Qualified Vendor Agreement, and cannot be employed or subcontracted by a DDD Qualified Vendor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in Federal and State statutes and agency policies and procedures relating to the care and assistance for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge in Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Knowledge in Principles and practices of case management.
  • Knowledge in Community resources; Medical and behavioral health issues and terminology.
  • Knowledge in Principles of applied behavioral interventions; Child development and human development principles.
  • Knowledge in Procurement and purchasing practices; Crisis intervention techniques, social work practices.
  • Skills in Oral and written communication.
  • Skills in Developing, evaluating, and maintaining member eligibility plans.
  • Skills in Interviewing, counseling, and interacting with members and family members.
  • Skills in Conducting needs assessments; Problem identification and resolution.
  • Skills in Interpersonal relations as applied to contacts with members, representatives of other governmental and community organizations, and the public.
  • Skills in Coordinate and facilitate eligibility interviews as needed; Using various computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to Work independently and within diverse work teams.
  • Ability to Organize and manage eligibility case load.
  • Ability to Document files and information within the required/mandated timelines.
  • Ability to Maintain confidentiality.
  • Must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks if driving is an essential function.
  • Must have a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1968.
  • Candidates shall be subject to a search of both the Department of Child Safety Central Registry and the Adult Protective Services Registry.
  • Successfully pass background and reference check.

Nice To Haves

  • TWO (2) years of professional experience coordinating social service activities (e.g., PCSPs, client referral for services, community services, etc.)
  • ONE (1) year as a Human Service Specialist I in Arizona State Service
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts eligibility interviews; reviews eligibility referral/redetermination; tracks redetermination; compiles information regarding eligibility determination/redetermination from a variety of sources in order to make recommendations on DDD eligibility determinations.
  • Receives and screens applications and refers applicants to community resources as appropriate.
  • Writes comprehensive progress notes, sets-up new member files; Reviews documentation, makes eligibility determinations, researches disability diagnoses.
  • Correspondence with families on initial applications, denial of service notices, etc.
  • Attends training and meetings.
