About The Position

The Elevator Repair Apprentice is a five-year voluntary, apprenticeship program to become a state licensed Certified Elevator Technician through a Federal Bureau of Apprentice and Training approved program consisting of on-the-job learning and course instruction. This role requires the apprentice to be on call, accessible by phone when on call, and report to work within one hour of being called. The position involves shift work and overtime as scheduled, sometimes with short or no notice. The apprentice must closely observe and adhere to all safety rules and regulations, leave work sites clean and orderly, and ensure all tools and equipment are cleaned and materials are secured. Work is performed in accordance with applicable guides and manuals, and completed work is logged. Associated administrative work, such as time and attendance, work order processing, parts ordering and receiving, and vendor communications, is also required. Apprentices must attend and complete all classroom training and testing required under the apprenticeship program, which may include up to 9 hours of mandatory related instructional classes per week after work hours. Apprentices will not be paid for hours spent on apprenticeship program classes or study.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
One (1) year of elevator experience; OR high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of electrical or electronic experience.
Valid U.S. driver's license.
At least 19 years of age at time of hire.
Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report in compliance with University policies.
Ability to submit to and pass a post-offer drug screen.
Working knowledge of the use of multimeters and oscilloscopes.

Nice To Haves

Degree or certification in electrical maintenance.
Experience troubleshooting and making repairs on AC/DC motors and motor control circuits.
Experience troubleshooting and making repairs on relay and/or solid state/microprocessor control circuits.
Experience troubleshooting and making repairs on hydraulic systems and valves.
Experience troubleshooting and making repairs on mechanical systems in general.

Responsibilities

Become a state licensed Certified Elevator Technician through a Federal Bureau of Apprentice and Training approved program.
Participate in on-the-job learning and course instruction.
Be on call and accessible by phone, reporting to work within one hour of being called.

Observe and adhere to all safety rules and regulations.

Perform work in accordance with proper and applicable guides and manuals.
Log completed work on equipment guides, logbooks, PM repair logs, on the job training logs, classwork logs, and timesheets.
Perform associated administrative work, including time and attendance, work order processing, ordering and receiving parts, and communications with vendors, manufacturers, and other trades/departments.
Follow all UA and UA Elevator Shop policies and procedures.
Attend and complete all classroom training and testing required under the apprenticeship program.
Complete mandatory related instructional classes after work hours.
